Competitive events.

We encourage all of our riders to have a go and to try out competitive events to give them a wider experience of cycling.

Racing

As a club we encourage all of our riders to have a go and to try out competitive events to give them a wider experience of cycling. Races are split into age categories (Under 8’s, 10’s, 12’s, 14’s and 16’s), so you will always be racing riders of a similar age. There are podium presentations and prizes for each age category, but typically in the younger age categories, all riders receive a prize at the end (a medal or some haribo!) for taking part.

Events take place all across Scotland and beyond, however for younger riders, where race durations will be around 10 minutes, we wouldn't encourage travelling further than an hour to compete (unless you are staying away for the weekend and making a trip out of it!).

We encourage Parents/Guardians to give it a go too - especially Cyclocross which we have seen a lot of parents/carers don race numbers and compete in over the last couple of years.

Most events are run through Scottish Cycling (the National Governing Body for the Sport) and listed on the events section of the British Cycling website, where you can sign up to take part.

We share events regularly through our Facebook page, and most events have more than one rider in attendance, so you will always see a familiar face at the start line.

If you would like to more about events and what they involve, please speak to a member of the Coaching and Leadership team.

Events

Over the last few years we have hosted a large number of events. These not only give riders in our club the opportunity to take part in locally held events, but also help us to play out part in the wider development and participation of our sport.

This includes our annual club championships for FJBC riders, to open events for everyone such as our summer MTB Dirt Crit series at Callendar Estate trails and cyclo-cross races at Callendar Park. We also host and support with a number of road race events at the West Lothian Cycle Circuit, either on our own or in partnership with other local clubs. We aim to host a range of events each year so as to provide racing opportunities across a number of different disciplines.

We have also hosted national level events, with rounds of the National Trophy British Series taking place in Callendar Park. These events see the best cyclo-cross riders in the country racing on our doorstep and give our own riders experience of racing at British level. It also generates huge excitements and exposure for our local communities fr such high profile events to held locally, and to hopefully inspire more and more people into cycling.
