A circular cycle ride around the River Carron

For those looking for an easy scenic route around Larbert, Sunnyside and Newcarron in Falkirk. Here is a blog of our recent jaunt as Falkirk Junior Bike club members.

Our loop started in New Carron, but there are various points you can join the loop. In New Carron, there are 2 play parks that you can stop off at on your travels, you may even see some deer and some swans in the local lakes.

We carried along the Carron river, past many bramble bushes and under an old disused bridge, as you cross the river over a small bridge, turn left onto Carron Road. Here, you can continue the trails to the Kelpies/Helix park.

On Carron Road cross the river and take a sharp left, heading alongside the river, the road is well sign posted for Larbert and hospital. This section is along a quiet industrial estate entrance, so take care, when you follow the road round to the left, you come to a junction with a path up a hill towards Carron Dams. This was quite steep for both me and my 6 year old son, so we walked it.

As you pass Carron Dams on your right hand side you continue along the paths, you pass the estate by Larbert High school, where you could join from the pump track. This is a long, smooth flat path that takes you towards Larbert Cross. There are handy maps and sign posts along the route.

We continued all the way to the end of this path, which brings you to a nice little snack van, who even have hot chocolate with marshmallows, and a lovely bench outside. £1.00 a cuppa is not a bad deal for along the route. We just had breakfast, so couldn’t be persuaded to have a bacon roll, but maybe next time.

We turned back around and headed back to the first 4 way cross. Taking a right, there are some nice down hills towards a small green bridge over the River Carron. We took a right through the trees and up the hill past the playing fields and towards the crematorium. Follow the paths around the crematorium and this brings you back into New Carron estate.

A great route for younger riders, and plenty of things to see and do along the ride!
